FAQ

Why should I join the Golden State Flycasters (GSF)?

GSF means fly-fishing friends, renowned speakers, and interesting and informative monthly programs, an informative monthly e-newsletter, organized trips (near and far), fisheries conservation efforts (locally and statewide), and additional opportunities to network with other fly fishers–all at a convenient North County location.

What makes GSF programs unique?

While the fees and expenses of monthly speakers can be significant, our meeting programs are coordinated with six other Southern California fly-fishing clubs to give GSF greatly discounted speaker fees and shared travel expenses. GSF speakers are carefully evaluated and often previewed prior to booking. Additionally, we also invite local fly fishers, guides, fly casters and others to present programs.

Tell me more about the e-newsletter.

GSF has taken advantage of the Internet age by distributing its newsletter via e-mail. Don’t have access to the Internet? A printed version of the newsletter will be mailed for an additional annual fee.

Does GSF support and contribute to conservation causes?

Definitely! GSF supports conservation and restoration of local, statewide, and other fisheries, including fund raising and contributions to specific activities and organizations also working to this end, and supporting work in the field by our members.

Why do we need another fly-fishing club in the San Diego area?

GSF provides a North County meeting location beneficial to fly-fishing enthusiasts; an opportunity to hear from top quality professionals, outfitters, educators, and celebrities in our sport; and an opportunity to learn from others and share what you know; By comparison, there are four clubs in Orange County, and at least six clubs in LA County.

I’m sold...How can I make a contribution to the success of GSF?

It takes money to start an organization, and we are looking to our Members and Golden Charter Members to provide seed funds. Golden Charter Members are men, women and organizations who make significant cash and contributions-inkind in getting GSF off the ground. To that end, we are offering various levels of Golden Charter Memberships to those who contribute $200 or more to GSF, with varying levels of benefits.

Are contributions to GSF tax deductible?

Yes. GSF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, and your contributions are tax deductible. You should discuss the particulars with your accountant.

Are there other ways I can help GSF?

There are a number of ways you can help GSF become one of the best organizations of its kind. First, join the club, get involved, show up...like any organization, you get out of GSF what you put in! Membership applications are available by contacting any GSF Director. Second, volunteer to assist with our activities, submit articles for publication in the newsletter, put together or lead trips, etc. We, of course, encourage you to take advantage of our 501(c)3 status, and make a tax-exempt cash contribution at any time.
